Cat photography in Singapore: what to expect at Pawneko Creative Studios
Cat photography in Singapore: what to expect at Pawneko Creative Studios
One of Singapore's few cat-only photography studio — and honestly, your cat is going to love it here (even if they pretend not to at first).

A dedicated cat photography studio in Singapore
There are plenty of photography studios in Singapore — but this one that is built specifically for cats, furnished for cats, and lit with cats in mind. That's us, and we're very glad you found us! 🐾
Pawneko Creative Studios is a boutique studio with professional controlled lighting already rigged before you walk in, a cat tree positioned right in the shoot zone, a full prop and backdrop library, and a photographer who has spent a genuinely embarrassing amount of time thinking about how cats move, what makes them look at a camera, and how to work with the ones who absolutely refuse to cooperate (spoiler: treats, patience, and never once chasing them). Cat photography isn't like photographing people — you can't direct a cat, you can only create the right conditions and wait — and that's exactly what we do here.
This post walks through everything you need to know before your session — how the studio is set up, what to bring, how a booking flows from arrival to photo delivery, and which package is going to suit your cat best. If you've been thinking about booking and want to know what you're actually getting yourself into — read on! 🎉

The shoot zone — 4.5m × 3.5m, controlled professional lighting built in, fully enclosed.
What the studio actually looks like
The studio is a dedicated shoot zone — 4.5m × 3.5m — with professional controlled lighting already built into the space before you arrive, so there's no "hang on while I set up the softboxes" situation when your cat is already getting curious and you're trying to keep them in the carrier. Everything is ready — the lighting is rigged, the backdrop is set, the cat tree is in position — and we start when your cat is ready, not when we are.
The space is properly cat-proofed too: no toxic plants and no routes of sudden escape — and crucially, no other animal smells. The studio is used exclusively for cats and cat-adjacent creative sessions, which means no dog scents from yesterday's booking and no residual animal territory smells that put a cat's guard up the moment they step out of their carrier. That detail matters more than you'd think! A cat who smells another animal is already on alert, and alert cats are much harder to photograph than curious ones.
There's also a pantry area just outside the shoot zone — somewhere for you to sit, breathe, and let your cat have a wander and a good sniff of the studio before the camera comes out. Some cats take two minutes to decide it's safe. Some take fifteen — and that's completely fine! The pantry means that acclimatisation time doesn't eat into your shoot, which means more photos and a much happier cat by the time we start.
What's already set up when you arrive ✨
- Professional controlled lighting — pre-rigged, no setup time, no waiting around
- Your backdrop (or backdrops) depending on your package — all hung properly
- Full prop library including costumes, cat toys, other photo props
- The cat tree, positioned right in the shoot zone where the best light hits
- A Full Treat Menu for even the pickiest of eaters — your cat only eats from our stock during the session for allergen control.
- Clean, lint-rolled, cat-hair-free surfaces throughout (until your cat arrives, at least)
Don't feed your cat for 2 hours before you arrive! A slightly hungry cat is a treat-motivated cat — and treat motivation is genuinely the most powerful tool in cat photography. I know it feels mean, but it's 2 hours, they'll absolutely be fine, and you'll end up with significantly better photos because of it. Trust the process 🐾
How a cat photography session works
Every session — whether it's the 20-minute Kitten Quickie or the full 90-minute Birthday Pawty — follows the same general arc, and knowing what to expect ahead of time makes the whole thing so much more relaxed for both you and your cat! Here's how it typically goes 🐾
Arrival and settling in 🐱
Arrive with your cat in their carrier and once you're inside the studio, just set the carrier down and open the door — then let them choose when to come out! A cat who decides for themselves that the space is safe is already in a completely different headspace from a cat who got tipped out of their carrier onto an unfamiliar surface. It sounds like a small thing but it genuinely changes the whole session, so we never rush this part no matter what.
While your cat has a sniff and a wander, I'll quickly chat through the session with you — which backdrops we're working with, what props are available, whether there's a birthday setup or seasonal theme ready to go, and how we'll use treats and toys throughout. That chat takes about 5 minutes and then we just follow the cat's lead from there!
The actual shoot ✨
Cat photography is really just a game of patience and timing — which sounds simple until you're doing it! Because the studio lighting is already controlled and pre-set, I'm not chasing exposure settings or adjusting softboxes mid-session — all of that is sorted before you arrive, which means my full attention stays on your cat the whole time: watching for the moment they finally settle, catching the slow blink that tells you they've decided this is actually fine, and anticipating the little head tilt that turns into exactly the portrait you've been imagining.
Treats and toys are part of every session, but the trick is using them at the right moment rather than constantly — a cat that's been offered treats every 30 seconds for 20 minutes will completely stop caring about treats, which is the last thing we want! One well-timed treat gets you the ear prick, the direct eye contact, the alert and gorgeous expression. Knowing when that moment is coming is genuinely most of what you're booking when you book a session here 🐾
Backdrop changes and props 🎨
Depending on your package, we'll likely switch backdrops at some point during the session — and these transitions are done as smoothly as possible because a settled cat can absolutely be unsettled by too much movement or fuss! For packages with multiple backdrop setups (Signature Session, Paw & Family, Birthday Pawty), the timing of any switches will follow your cat's energy rather than fight it, so if your cat is in their element on backdrop one we'll ride that wave before moving on.
Their favourite interactive toy (feather wand, crinkle ball — whatever actually gets them going), two types of treats — one they absolutely lose their mind over and one they just like, because you genuinely need both levels — and their vaccination records in case we need a quick check. And please bring the carrier they actually live with, not the fancy hard case they've seen twice and already decided they hate! 😂
Delivery
All your edited softcopies come via a shared Dropbox link sent to your booking email within 5 business days of your session — and the link stays active for 60 days, so make sure you download everything before it expires! If you need your photos faster, rush delivery (within 24 hours) is available as a paid add-on at +$30, just let me know at or before the session 📸
It is a legal requirement under Singapore's Animals and Birds Act to have your cat licensed via AVS PALS (pals.avs.gov.sg) and microchipped. The free licensing window closes 31 August 2026. Fines of up to SGD $5,000 apply for unlicensed cats after this date. Please ensure your cat is licensed before booking a session from September 2026 onwards.
Which package is right for your cat
Six packages, each designed for a different type of session and a different kind of cat — from the "we're just testing the waters" first visit to the full birthday extravaganza! Click any package to see what's included and we'll find the right fit for your furbaby 🐾
Not sure which package to pick? Here's how to choose! 🐱
- First time, cat is a little nervous: Start with the Kitten Quickie — it's low commitment, low pressure, and totally the right call. If they end up having the best time of their life (which does happen!), you can always book a Signature Session next month with a cat who now recognises the studio smell and walks in like they own the place.
- You want a few different looks: The Signature Session is the sweet spot — three backdrop setups, full prop access, one themed scene, and enough variety to tell a proper story of your cat. It's our most popular package for a reason!
- You want to be in the photos too: Paw & Family is the one — specifically designed for cat and owner (or the whole household!) together, with 30 photos across 75 minutes and full prop access throughout.
- It's their birthday: Obviously Birthday Pawty. The cake smash setup alone is worth the booking — 90 minutes, 40 photos, and the whole birthday theme is ready before you walk in.
- You have more than one cat: Multi-Cat was made for you — 90 minutes across 2–4 cats and 35 edited photos. Coordinating multiple cats for photography is genuinely a skill and we absolutely have it 😂
